Description

Ranchu Goldfish

The Ranchu has a rich history. The beginnings of this breed head deep into the Orient. The history of the Ranchu starts in China, contrary to what you hear from many people. Most people believe this variety of goldfish started in Japan. The Japanese breeders must be given the most credit, though. They are the group who took the humble beginning of the fish and developed it into one of the most interesting breeds today.

Just like most other varieties of goldfish, this fish is prolific at creating waste. You must take special considerations to maintain optimal water quality with regular maintenance. They will benefit from having plenty of space and water to stay healthy.  In addition to a fine gravel bottom or well-rounded river rocks, the Red & White Ranchu Goldfish will appreciate hardy, cold water plants. Keep in mind that goldfish are diggers and will scatter the fine sand onto leaves, potentially damaging thin and less hardy plants. Like all fancy goldfish, maintaining water temperature above 18 degrees is recommended.

This listing is for an assorted selection of Ranchu goldfish. You will be supplied with a random selection of orange, red, calico, brown and white.

Diet
Omnivore - The main food we recommend would be Goldfish flake and small Pellets. Mixing in some live or frozen brine, or other fresh alternatives can help enhance their health. Do not forget the importance of vegetables in their diet. The Ranchu is very happy snacking on lettuce or cucumbers.

Compatibility
Community with other coldwater species such as other goldfish, Danios and White Cloud Mountain Minnows.

Breeding
There appears to be a definite courtship ritual when goldfish breed. Breeding often results in up to 1,000 eggs, with fry hatching in five to six days. They should be fed small pieces of live or prepared foods designed for egg-laying fish.

Life Span
They can live to 10+ years in perfect conditions.
