Evolution Aqua: Everything you need to know about Surge

Everything you need to know about Surge

Why use Surge?

Surge is Evolution Aqua's all-in-one filter with built-in UVC for ponds up to 5,000 litres.

Thanks to its Air Clean Technology, cleaning those cumbersome, messy and time-consuming foam and sponge filters will become a thing of the past.

With Surge the cleaning process is as simple as turning a valve, keeping your hands clean and dry!

Our Surge filter boasts a compact design perfect for individuals new to the hobby or with limited space. And it’s black body blocks the sunlight, inhibiting the growth of algae and blanketweed within the filter.

The Surge filter comes complete with:

  • Built-in 18W UV – simple set up less pipework required
  • 2 stainless steel mounting brackets – can be installed on a wall or post
  • Stepped hose tails for easy connection
  • Ball valves for easy and reliable operation
  • A clear hose is provided to see wastewater flow when draining.

The K+ media provides enhanced biological and mechanical filtration whilst the built-in UVC clears green water fast ensuring clear and healthy water returning to your pond.

Your most common questions

What is K+Media?

K+ media is the culmination of over 20 years of R&D work with the Evolution Aqua group. We add in minerals and enzymes during the production of K+ Media which helps speed up the production of the biofilms needed for the beneficial bacteria to form and go to work keeping your pond water clear and your fish happy. Read more about K+ Media.

Does the UV effect the media?

K+ media has both protected and unprotected surface areas, the protected being within the media core itself and this, by nature of its shape and size, ensures the biofilm and bacteria contained within it remain stable. Of course, this protected surface area will not be reached by the UVC as the key component of our media is HDPE which is UV resistant. K+ Media has an overall surface area of 1,350m2 per m3, but more importantly for biological filtration, our sizing takes into account the protected surface area of K+ Media at 1,025m2 per m.

Size of the pond?

Surge is an effective all-in-one filter for koi and ornamental ponds up to 5000L, perfect if you have a small pond or just getting into the hobby.

How easy is it to set up?

The Surge has a sleek and compact design, perfect for those with limited space. Surge comes with 2 stainless steel wall-mounted brackets for you to screw directly into your wall or fence post.

Isn’t the Surge just a Tempest?

The simple answer is no. While both the Tempest and Surge do utilise the same Air Clean Technology they fulfil different functions within a pond filtration system.

First of all, Tempest is a polisher and to be effective must be used in conjunction with a main filter. The Tempest will trap small debris and fines down to 1 micron that slipped through the main filter. And to be effective the Tempest is positioned after your filter at an optimum flow rate of 5,000 litres per hour. Learn more about the Tempest.

Surge is an all-in-one and stand-alone filter with built-in UVC effective for ponds up to 5000L, the K+ Media traps debris from your pond with an optimum flow of 2.500 litres per hour to capture a wide range of particles sizes and the amount of K+ media is less than the Tempest so that the Air clean technology works efficient. The UVC kills harmful bacteria and clears green water. Its black body also discourages the growth of blanketweed inside the filter.

Can the Surge be used with other Evolution Aqua products?

Of course!

We have an extensive pond product range from filters, pumps, polishers and more all of which work to suit the needs of your pond and wallet.

We’d also recommend using our PURE bacteria products in conjunction with our surge filter to ensure the best possible pond health.

I am interested in th e surge as it more compact than the tempest, but I already have system with a UV. My questions are, can you have to much UV, and can I turn off the UV on the surge and not compromise the way it works?
