How do we deliver Fibreglass Ponds to your home?

How do we deliver Fibreglass Ponds to your home?
Fibreglass preformed ponds create a wonderful feature for your garden or patio. Easy to install, completely solid and water tight, these ponds are the perfect hassle-free way to get into the pondkeeping hobby.
Here at Real Aquatics we sell thousands of fibreglass ponds every year. As a new pond season dawns, many of you are wondering, how exactly do we get a fibreglass pond delivered to our home?
Firstly, it's not rocket science. Our highly skilled drivers will deliver your pond direct to your front door either on a pallet (Georgia, Lagoon, Blenheim) or via our fleet of small flatbed lorries (Marlin, Barracuda, Pacific, Atlantic, Nevada, Niigata).
All you have to do is purchase your pond and we'll contact you to arrange a convenient day and time to deliver. All deliveries usually take place within 7 working days, but you can choose to receive it at a later date that's more convenient for you or your landscaper / builder working on your garden pond project.
Things to consider before purchasing your Fibreglass Pond
A fibreglass pond will save you many hours over installing a pond using a pond liner. A fribreglass pond also comes with a lifetime guarantee, so (unlike pond liner) you are completely covered in the unlikely event of a leak.
Here are some important things to consider when ordering a fibreglass pond:
-
Measure your space. Ensure you have enough room in your garden to install your fibreglass pond. Check the dimensions and make sure your garden can accommodate the size and depth before you dig the hole!
-
Measure the access. Make sure the pond can actually fit through your access into your garden. If you have a narrow alleyway, measure the width and compare it to the depth of the pond. These ponds can be carried on their side to get through to your garden, but must fit down your access route first! Consider removing drainpipes, gates or obstructions if need be. Below are some examples of awkward deliveries due to lack of pre-planning!
-
Help on hand. Our drivers are insured to deliver to your driveway only but may offer to assist with the handling if it is safe to do so. If you are ordering a particularly large pond remember to arrange for some helpers to move the pond into your desired final location. If using a builder, ensure that they have labour on site for the manual handling of your pond.
-
Thoughtful planning. When making your plan, particularly if installing a raised pond using sleepers or on a patio, try to ensure that the location isn't in direct sunlight or directly under any trees, to avoid algae and excess build-up of detritus. Follow the handy installation guide by clicking here or reading the instructions in the catalogue that comes with your delivery.
-
Power points. If you are installing a filter to keep goldfish or koi, consider how you are going to get electricity to the equipment in the pond.
- The right equipment. If you want to use your fibreglass pond to attract wildlife only, purchase some nice pond plants to attract frogs and newts, like water lillies. If you want to keep goldfish and koi, you will need a filter. Our range of combined pressurised filter sets are perfect as a complete package to ensure your pond water is healthy enough for fishkeeping. Don't forget to dechlorinate your tap water too!
Tales from a Delivery Driver
When we book a delivery with you, we will always run through a checklist to ensure you are aware of the process. However, not all customers pay attention, and sometimes costly (and amusing!) mistakes are made.
One particular delivery, a lacklustre landscaper neglected to measure the access through the alleyway to his clients' garden out back. Despite the gap being nearly a foot narrower than the pond he continued his denial by removing a side gate and all of the drainpipes leading through, buying less than a couple of inches. After literally jumping up and down in abject frustration, he angrily blamed our driver for not knowing that his clients' alleyway was too narrow. The same landscaper also answered "yes, yes, yes, whatever" when we called beforehand to book delivery and asked whether it would fit.
We turned up at a large chain garden centre with a pallet load of ponds one morning, arranged on a large 3m2 pallet, and waited while the novice forklift operator fiddled and wrangled unloading. After setting the pallet on the ground he then proceeded to drive his forks straight through the stack. He turned and asked our driver, "are we still covered by the guarantee...?".
One client employed a group of builders to rebuild a conservatory with a medium-sized pond as a centrepiece. When we delivered to his clients driveway and could see no obvious access to the rear, we watched on in astonishment as this group of burly men lifted the pond onto the roof of the garage, to slide it over into the garden. The method would have worked perfectly if the young labourer sent onto the roof to push it through hadn't disappeared into the shed through the rotten rafters on route. Thankfully, he was ok!
