Vintage Fish House Videos | Holiday & Weekend Feeder Block

We no longer have a fish house, but we do have some nice memories from it. These are hazy vintage-effect videos, shot on a cheap camera phone, mostly to show new fish arrivals or generally interesting videos to my kids while working alone in the store. I hope you enjoy them - Mark (owner).

How do holiday block fish feeders work?

Holiday block fish feeders are a convenient solution for feeding your fish while you're away. These blocks are made of a slow-dissolving material, often calcium or plaster-of-Paris, which contains small amounts of food embedded within.

When placed in the aquarium, the holiday block gradually dissolves, releasing food particles (typically small pellets) into the water over a set period, typically ranging from a few days to a couple of weeks.

The blocks are designed to provide a steady supply of nutrients without overfeeding, ensuring your fish stay healthy during your weekend break or longer absence. However, it's worth noting that the dissolution process can sometimes alter the water's chemistry, such as increasing its hardness.

If you're planning to use a holiday block or an automated feeder it's a good idea to test it in advance to ensure it suits your aquarium's needs. Check out this video of a vacation block slowly dissolving in an aquarium:
