Chaetodon semilarvatus
Description
A Red Sea butterflyfish in solid lemon yellow crossed with fine orange bars and a blue cheek patch. One of the most beautiful and, unusually, one of the more feedable butterflyfish.
Feeding
Omnivorous and relatively adaptable for a butterflyfish. Frozen mysis, clam, chopped prawn and marine pellets, two or three times daily.
Compatibility
Peaceful toward fish and often kept in pairs or small groups. Not reef safe - will eat corals, anemones and tubeworms.
Behaviour and personality
Cruises slowly and calmly, often in pairs. Settles more readily than most butterflyfish.
Before you buy
Among the better butterflyfish for feeding, but thoroughly unsafe with corals. Best kept as a pair in a large fish-only system.
