Description

Overview:
The Albino Cherry Barb is a selectively bred variant of the popular Cherry Barb, featuring a creamy white to pale gold body with a soft pink blush and bright red eyes. It shares the same peaceful nature, hardiness, and active schooling behavior as the standard form, making it perfect for planted community aquariums.

Origin:
The wild-type Puntius titteya is native to Sri Lanka, inhabiting shaded, slow-moving streams and forest pools rich in vegetation. The albino form is a captive-bred strain developed in the aquarium trade.

Feeding:
Omnivorous and undemanding. Accepts flakes, micro pellets, and frozen or live foods such as brine shrimp, daphnia, and bloodworms. A varied diet will enhance their subtle pink and gold tones.

Tank Mates:
Peaceful and ideal for small to medium community aquariums. Mix well with other calm species such as rasboras, tetras, Corydoras, and dwarf gouramis. Keep in groups of at least 6–8 to promote schooling and natural activity.

Water Parameters:

  • Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)
  • pH: 6.0–7.5
  • Soft to moderately hard water
  • Minimum Tank Size: 15 gallons
  • Prefers planted tanks with open swimming space

Behavior & Personality:

  • Peaceful, active midwater swimmer
  • Males are slimmer with more intense pink tones; females are fuller-bodied and lighter
  • Displays best colors in well-maintained aquariums with subdued lighting

Special Notes:

  • Hardy and beginner-friendly
  • Looks especially striking in planted setups with dark substrates
  • Will spawn readily in aquariums with fine-leaved plants or spawning mops

The Albino Cherry Barb offers a gentle, glowing alternative to the classic Cherry Barb, adding activity, peace, and elegance to freshwater community aquariums.
