Care guide at a glance
Corydoras pygmaeus
Description
A miniature corydoras that swims in mid-water rather than staying pinned to the substrate, kept here in an albino form. Best in a large group where the shoaling behaviour becomes obvious.
Feeding
Small sinking foods: crushed wafers, micro-pellets, frozen cyclops and baby brine shrimp. Too small for standard catfish pellets.
Compatibility
Entirely peaceful and suitable for nano tanks. Keep in groups of ten or more. Excellent with small tetras, rasboras and shrimp.
Behaviour and personality
Unusually for a cory, spends much of its time hovering in mid-water in a loose shoal, dropping to the substrate to feed.
Before you buy
Far too small to compete with larger community fish at feeding time, so make sure food actually reaches them. Soft sand substrate protects the barbels.
