Astronotus ocellatus
Description
A large, intelligent South American cichlid in an albino form marbled with red-orange. Genuinely interactive, and genuinely enormous.
Feeding
Carnivorous. Quality cichlid pellets as a staple, plus frozen prawn, mussel and earthworm. Do not feed live feeder fish.
Compatibility
Will eat anything it can fit in its mouth, which eventually means most things. Keep alone, as a pair, or with large robust cichlids and catfish.
Behaviour and personality
Recognises its keeper, begs at the glass and rearranges the tank to suit itself. One of the most personable fish in the hobby.
Before you buy
Sold at 5 cm and reaches 30 cm or more in two years. Produces a very heavy waste load, so filtration and water changes must be substantial. It will uproot every plant and move every ornament.

Free delivery when your livestock subtotal is over £350.
Delivery is scheduled for your selected delivery date and typically arrives before 1pm.
There is no minimum order value.

- In-stock livestock orders will be processed and dispatched for delivery on the date selected on the cart/basket page.
- Available delivery days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
- If any stock issues affect your chosen delivery date, we will contact you as soon as possible by email or telephone.
- Shipping for dry goods is charged separately from livestock delivery and does not count towards the £350 free delivery threshold. Dry goods are dispatched according to our standard delivery policy.
