Echinodorus - Sword Plants
There are more than 45 species of Echinodorus - sword plants. A bog plant in the wild, Echinodorus plants are one of the most popular groups of aquarium plants. There are many different types that will commonly be called "Amazon swords", including E. amazonicus, E. bleherii and E. grisebachii.
Sword plants produce small plantlets and divide at the root to reproduce. Stalks will produce small flowers if they reach the surface. Leaves will grow narrowly upward towards the light source if lighting is less than optimal, but will grow outward in optimal conditions. A 12-hour rotation of lighting is recommended. Fertilizing with an iron-based supplement will help the plant to thrive.
When planting or suring trimming, remove any damaged or yellowed leaves as they will not improve. Trimming rotten roots will stimulate better growth.

Please note: whilst every effort is made to prevent or remove snails and snail eggs, we do not use copper treatments in our systems (because copper is also harmful to shrimp) so cannot absolutely guarantee snail-free. If you are concerned about snails, we recommended that you dip your plants in a snail preventative solution, such as Esha Gastropex, prior to adding to your aquarium. We do not recommend buying treated plants, or administering copper or anti-snail treatments if you have shrimp in your aquarium. Snails are perfectly safe in an aquarium and will not harm your fish.
