Chaetodon auriga
Description
A white butterflyfish crossed with fine chevron lines, a black eye band and a trailing dorsal filament. One of the hardiest butterflyfish and among the easiest to feed.
Feeding
Omnivorous and adaptable. Frozen mysis, brine shrimp, clam, chopped prawn and marine pellets. Usually feeds from the outset.
Compatibility
Peaceful toward fish. Not reef safe - will eat soft corals, anemones, zoanthids and tubeworms. Suits a fish-only system.
Behaviour and personality
Cruises steadily around the tank picking at rockwork. Bold and quick to settle compared with most butterflyfish.
Before you buy
One of the few butterflyfish that can be recommended without heavy caveats on feeding, but it is thoroughly unsafe with corals and inverts. Reaches 20 cm.
