The Banded Snake Eel is a slender, striking marine eel known for its distinctive alternating dark and light bands along its elongated body. Often burrowing in sandy substrates, it adds natural movement and visual interest to larger marine aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific region, typically found in sandy plains near coral reefs across Indonesia, the Philippines, and northern Australia.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – feeds on small crustaceans and meaty marine foods. In captivity, provide live or frozen shrimp, chopped seafood, and other suitable meaty foods.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful, larger species. Avoid small fish and invertebrates that may be treated as prey.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive/predatory – primarily burrowing and shy, hunting only small prey.
Experience Level:
Advanced – requires a well-established aquarium with deep sand substrate for burrowing and secure hiding spaces.
