Care guide at a glance
Cetoscarus bicolor
Description
A parrotfish whose juvenile is white with an orange saddle and black eye patch, maturing into an enormous green and pink adult. Beautiful as a juvenile and vast as an adult.
Feeding
Grazes algae and coral rock with fused beak-like teeth. Needs dried marine algae several times daily, spirulina foods and substantial live rock to work on.
Compatibility
Not reef safe - it scrapes and consumes coral rock. Peaceful toward fish.
Behaviour and personality
Grazes rock continuously and produces a very large volume of fine sand-like waste, exactly as parrotfish do in the wild.
Before you buy
This is the essential point: the appealing little white-and-orange juvenile becomes a fish approaching a metre long. It belongs in a very large custom system or a public aquarium, not a home reef. Please make sure buyers understand what it becomes.
