Description
A subtler alternative to the standard neon: a bright white-gold upper stripe over a broad black band, all on a smoky body. Understated in ones and twos, and genuinely striking in a shoal.
Feeding
Flake, micro-pellets and small frozen foods including daphnia, cyclops and bloodworm. Omnivorous and straightforward.
Compatibility
An excellent community fish. Keep in groups of eight or more. Mixes well with other tetras, rasboras, corydoras and peaceful dwarf cichlids.
Behaviour and personality
Occupies the middle of the tank and shoals more tightly than most tetras. Calm and unhurried compared with neons.
Before you buy
Noticeably hardier than the neon or cardinal tetra, and a better choice for a tank that has only recently matured. Colour deepens over dark substrate.
