Cephalopholis formosa
Description
A grouper in olive-brown ruled with fine electric blue lines running the length of the body. Hardy, characterful and thoroughly predatory.
Feeding
Carnivorous. Frozen prawn, squid, mussel and chunks of marine fish, two or three times a week. Do not feed live freshwater feeder fish.
Compatibility
Will eat any fish or shrimp it can swallow. Reef safe with corals. Only with large robust tankmates.
Behaviour and personality
Sits and watches from a chosen perch, then strikes suddenly. Grows quickly and becomes bold with its keeper.
Before you buy
Reaches 30-35 cm and will clear a tank of anything small enough to swallow. Grows fast, so plan for the adult rather than the fish you buy.
