Description

Boeseman’s Cory (Corydoras boesemani)
Overview

Boeseman’s Cory is a rare and highly sought-after Corydoras species known for its striking contrast pattern and vibrant personality. With a pale body, bold dark markings, and an active yet peaceful disposition, this species is ideal for dedicated Cory collectors and community tank keepers alike.

Origin

Recently described from Indonesia (New Guinea region), where it inhabits slow to moderately flowing streams with soft substrates and dense leaf litter.

Feeding

A hardy omnivore that readily accepts:

  • Sinking Cory pellets and wafers
  • Frozen bloodworms, brine shrimp, daphnia
  • High-quality micro pellets
  • Occasional live foods for conditioning

Tip: Offer foods that sink quickly since Corydoras feed primarily on the bottom.

Tank Mates

Perfect for peaceful community setups:

  • Small tetras, rasboras, rainbowfish
  • Dwarf cichlids (Apistogramma, ram cichlids)
  • Other Corydoras species
  • Peaceful loaches and small catfish

Avoid: Large, aggressive, or overly active tankmates.

Aggression

Very low. Like all Corydoras, this species is social and should be kept in groups of 6 or more to promote natural behavior and reduce stress.

Experience Level

Intermediate. Not difficult to care for, but its rarity means it benefits from stable water conditions, soft substrate, and high dissolved oxygen.

Water Parameters
  • Temperature: 72–79°F (22–26°C)
  • pH: 6.0–7.4
  • Hardness: 2–12 dGH
  • Notes: Provide sand substrate to protect their barbels, shaded areas, and driftwood or leaf litter to mimic their natural environment.

Boeseman’s Cory (Corydoras boesemani) is a beautiful and rare addition for hobbyists seeking something unique—peaceful, active, and full of charm in any well-maintained community aquarium.
