Description
A slim, peaceful barb that turns deep cherry red on breeding males. None of the boisterousness of the tiger barb, and a much better fit for a mixed community.
Feeding
Flake, micro-pellets and frozen daphnia, bloodworm and brine shrimp.
Compatibility
Peaceful and well behaved. Keep in groups of eight or more with a mix of sexes. Suitable for most community tanks.
Behaviour and personality
Occupies the lower and middle levels, often near cover. Males intensify to deep red when displaying to females.
Before you buy
Shy in open, brightly lit tanks and much bolder with planting and shade. Males only reach full colour when females are present.
