Coris aygula
Description
A wrasse that transforms completely with age: a white juvenile with orange spots and black ocelli becomes an enormous dark green adult with a pronounced forehead hump.
Feeding
Carnivorous. Frozen prawn, clam, mussel, cockle and large marine pellets. Crushes hard-shelled prey with powerful jaws.
Compatibility
Not reef safe. Will eat every ornamental invertebrate, overturn rockwork and rearrange the substrate. Only suitable with very large robust fish.
Behaviour and personality
Juveniles are charming and constantly active. Adults are powerful, destructive excavators that move rock and dig extensively.
Before you buy
This is the single most important thing on this listing: the appealing spotted juvenile becomes a fish over a metre long. It is unsuitable for any normal home aquarium and belongs in a very large custom system or a public aquarium. Please make sure buyers understand this.
