Hyphessobrycon columbianus
Description
A substantial tetra with a silver-blue body and deep red fins, larger and more robust than most of the common community tetras.
Feeding
Flake, pellets and frozen foods including bloodworm and brine shrimp. A vigorous feeder.
Compatibility
Boisterous rather than aggressive, and will nip long fins. Keep in groups of eight or more with similarly sized, robust tankmates. Not one for guppies or bettas.
Behaviour and personality
Fast, strong and always at the front at feeding time. Larger and more assertive than the smaller tetras.
Before you buy
Frequently sold small and sold as a peaceful community fish. It grows considerably and needs both space and appropriate tankmates.
