Description

A striking wrasse in dark blue with fine white lines and a bright yellow dorsal and tail. Beautiful, and a coral polyp specialist.

Feeding

Feeds on coral polyps and mucus in the wild. Must be weaned onto frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp and clam, several times daily. Many specimens never adapt and starve.

Compatibility

Not reef safe - it eats coral polyps. Peaceful toward fish. Juveniles clean other fish; adults do not.

Behaviour and personality

Picks constantly at coral and rock surfaces. Shy on arrival.

Before you buy

A coral-eating specialist, so it is unsuitable for a reef and hard to feed in a fish-only tank. Most specimens are lost within months. Many experienced keepers avoid the species.
