Acanthurus triostegus
Description
A pale surgeonfish crossed with clean black vertical bars, shoaling in the wild. Peaceful for a tang and unusual in being genuinely social.
Feeding
Primarily herbivorous. Dried marine algae daily, spirulina foods and some frozen meaty food.
Compatibility
Reef safe and among the least aggressive tangs. Can be kept in a group in a large tank, which is rare for the family.
Behaviour and personality
Shoals actively and grazes constantly. Less territorial than most Acanthurus.
Before you buy
One of the few tangs that can be kept in a group, but it still needs substantial swimming length. Ich-prone like all Acanthurus, so quarantine before introduction.
