Amblygobius semicinctus
Description
A banded sand goby in cream and dark brown with fine blue spotting. Peaceful, industrious and useful for keeping a sand bed turned over.
Feeding
Sifts sand and grazes algae, and needs supplementary feeding with frozen mysis, brine shrimp and vegetable-based marine foods.
Compatibility
Peaceful and reef safe. Keep singly unless the tank is large. Will dust low corals while sifting.
Behaviour and personality
Works the sand bed methodically, grazing algae and sifting substrate. Digs a burrow under rockwork.
Before you buy
Needs a mature tank with a deep fine sand bed and established algae, plus direct feeding. Jumps readily, so a sealed lid is essential.
