Macropodus opercularis
Description
One of the oldest ornamental fish in the hobby, banded in red and blue with long flowing fins. Hardy to the point of indestructible, and considerably more aggressive than its looks suggest.
Feeding
Omnivorous and unfussy. Flake, pellets and frozen foods.
Compatibility
Males are highly aggressive toward one another and toward other long-finned fish. Keep one male only. Not a community fish in the usual sense - best in a species tank or with fast, robust tankmates.
Behaviour and personality
Bold, territorial and constantly patrolling. Breathes atmospheric air at the surface.
Before you buy
Tolerates cool water and can be kept unheated indoors. The aggression is the real consideration: two males will fight seriously, and long-finned tankmates will be attacked.

Free delivery when your livestock subtotal is over £350.
Delivery is scheduled for your selected delivery date and typically arrives before 1pm.
There is no minimum order value.

- Shipping for dry goods is charged separately from livestock delivery and does not count towards the £350 free delivery threshold. Dry goods are dispatched according to our standard delivery policy.
