Overview
The Fu Manchu Lionfish, also known as the Twin Spot or Two-Spot Lionfish, is a small and striking species recognized by its long “moustache-like” chin barbels and vivid orange body adorned with dark bands and eye spots. Compact, hardy, and full of personality, this unique lionfish makes a captivating centerpiece for a peaceful predatory marine aquarium.
OriginNative to the Indo-Pacific region, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and the Great Barrier Reef, Dendrochirus biocellatus inhabits rocky reefs and coral slopes, often hiding in caves or crevices during the day.
FeedingA carnivore that prefers live foods initially, such as small shrimp or fish, but can be weaned onto frozen meaty foods like mysis shrimp, silversides, and krill. Feed once daily, ensuring all food items are appropriately sized.
Tank MatesPeaceful toward fish too large to be eaten, the Fu Manchu Lionfish can coexist with other non-aggressive species such as hawkfish, tangs, and larger wrasses. Avoid small fish or crustaceans, which may be viewed as prey.
AggressionGenerally peaceful and reclusive, spending much of its time perched among rocks or corals. It is best kept singly or as part of a mated pair in a spacious tank with plenty of hiding spots.
Experience LevelRecommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists. While hardy, this species requires careful feeding management and stable water conditions.
