Description
Overview:
The Giant Australian Copperband Butterfly Fish is a stunning marine species, famous for its long, narrow snout and bold vertical orange bands across a silvery-white body. Larger and more robust than standard Copperbands, it is both an effective natural aiptasia controller and a graceful showpiece for large aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the coastal reefs of Australia and Southeast Asia.
Feeding:
Carnivorous — enjoys live or frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and may graze on small invertebrates, including pest anemones like aiptasia.
Tank Mates:
Best suited for peaceful to semi-aggressive community fish. Avoid housing with highly territorial species or other Copperbands to prevent conflict.
Aggression:
Peaceful, though may show territorial behavior toward similar butterflyfish.
Experience Level:
Recommended for intermediate to advanced aquarists, due to specialized feeding habits and sensitivity during acclimation.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 72–78°F (22–26°C)
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Salinity: 1.020–1.025
- Minimum Tank Size: 100+ gallons
Striking, functional, and elegant, the Giant Australian Copperband Butterfly Fish makes a rewarding addition for experienced marine keepers seeking both beauty and utility in their aquarium.
