Thalassoma quinquevittatum
Description
A fast-swimming Thalassoma wrasse patterned in green and magenta, the males developing an extraordinary painted face. Restless and demanding of space.
Feeding
Carnivorous. Frozen mysis, chopped prawn, clam and marine pellets, two or three times daily.
Compatibility
Reef safe with corals but will hunt ornamental shrimp and small snails. Fast and boisterous; can unsettle timid tankmates.
Behaviour and personality
Extremely active, swimming constantly in open water. Terminal males develop intense green and magenta facial patterning.
Before you buy
Needs plenty of open swimming room and a sealed lid, as Thalassoma wrasses jump readily. Considerably more boisterous than a fairy or Halichoeres wrasse.
