The Hi-Hat Sweetlips is a captivating marine fish known for its elongated dorsal fins resembling a “hi-hat” cymbal and striking black-and-white vertical stripes. Juveniles are particularly dramatic, with long flowing fins that undulate gracefully, making them a show-stopping addition to aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Western Atlantic and Caribbean, often found in shallow reefs, lagoons, and reef flats.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – feeds on small crustaceans, worms, and other meaty marine foods. Multiple feedings per week are recommended to maintain health and vibrant coloration.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with peaceful or moderately semi-aggressive fish. Avoid very small fish or invertebrates, which may be targeted as prey.
Aggression:
Non-aggressive – generally peaceful, but may defend its immediate territory against conspecifics.
Experience Level:
Intermediate – thrives in a well-established aquarium with open swimming space and plenty of hiding spots.
