Halichoeres chloropterus
Description
A robust Halichoeres wrasse, bright jade green as a juvenile and mottled grey-green as an adult. Hardy and a capable pest hunter.
Feeding
Carnivorous. Frozen mysis, chopped prawn and marine pellets. Hunts pests among the rockwork.
Compatibility
Reef safe with corals but will eat ornamental shrimp, small snails and bristleworms. Useful against pest flatworms.
Behaviour and personality
Constantly active across the rockwork, burying in the sand bed to sleep. Juveniles are bright green; adults far plainer.
Before you buy
The bright green juvenile colour that sells the fish fades considerably with maturity. Needs a deep fine sand bed and a sealed lid.
