Sacura margaritacea
Description
A subtropical anthias in soft pink and cherry red with pearlescent flank spotting, the males developing extended fins. Collected from deep, cool water and rarely offered.
Feeding
Planktivore with a fast metabolism. Frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp and fine marine pellets, three or more times daily.
Compatibility
Peaceful and reef safe. Keep as one male with several females. Needs calm tankmates and low competition at feeding.
Behaviour and personality
Hovers in open water above rockwork, feeding constantly from the water column.
Before you buy
This is a cool-water fish and will not thrive at standard reef temperatures - a chiller is effectively required. Combined with the anthias feeding frequency, it is a genuine specialist purchase.
