The Jewel Pygmy Basslet is a dazzling and hardy reef fish known for its deep purple-blue body adorned with bright yellow fins and scattered iridescent spots—giving it a “jeweled” appearance. Active and full of personality, this species adds bold color and energy to marine aquariums.

Native to the Indo-Pacific region, particularly around Indonesia and the Philippines, the Jewel Pygmy Basslet inhabits coral-rich reefs and rocky slopes, often hiding among crevices and sponges for protection.

A carnivorous species that thrives on a diet of meaty marine foods, including mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet foods. Feed once or twice daily to maintain vibrant coloration and optimal health.

Best kept with other semi-aggressive or similarly sized fish such as wrasses, angelfish, and clownfish. Avoid housing with very timid species or other basslets in smaller aquariums, as territorial behavior may occur.

Semi-aggressive, particularly in confined spaces or toward similar-shaped fish. Provide plenty of rockwork and hiding spaces to minimize territorial disputes and promote natural behavior.

Recommended for intermediate aquarists. The Jewel Pygmy Basslet is hardy, reef-safe, and adaptable, but it thrives best in a mature system with stable conditions and ample shelter.
