Panaqolus sp.
Description
A small, boldly banded pleco in cream and dark brown, traded under the L397 code. A genuine wood-eater, and one of the more manageable plecos for a normal-sized tank.
Feeding
Wood forms a genuine part of the diet and bogwood must be present at all times. Supplement with sinking vegetable wafers, blanched courgette and occasional frozen foods.
Compatibility
Peaceful and largely nocturnal. Males are territorial over caves, so provide one cave per fish. Fine with most community species.
Behaviour and personality
Rasps constantly at wood surfaces, mainly after dark. Hides in caves during the day.
Before you buy
Without bogwood this fish will not do well - it is not optional decor. Prefers warmer water than most community fish, and produces a noticeable amount of fine waste, so filtration needs to keep up.
