Genicanthus lamarck
Description
A swallowtail angel in silver-grey with fine black horizontal lines and a lyre tail. Peaceful, reef safe and one of the easiest large angels to keep.
Feeding
Planktivore rather than a grazer, which is what makes it reef safe. Frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp and marine pellets, three times daily.
Compatibility
Reef safe - feeds from the water column and leaves corals alone. Peaceful. Can be kept as a male with several females.
Behaviour and personality
Swims constantly in open water rather than picking at rock. Females can change sex to male if no male is present.
Before you buy
One of the very few genuinely reef-safe angelfish, and among the hardiest. Needs frequent feeding like other planktivores, and open swimming space.
