Description
Ludwigia palustris red, also known as the Common Water-Primrose, is a perennial plant with slender red stems that can grow up to 60cm. The Common Water-Primrose, Ludwigia Palustris red, can be found in tropical waters of north and central America.
Ludwigia palustris red is an ideal background plant due to it fast growth. With its high impact colour it can be used to great effect as a focal point in the aquascape. It contrasts brilliantly with the greens of other plants and dark brown wood. It is also ideal to use as a starter plant in a new setup due to its fast growth and ability to remove nutrients. This helps to prevent algae which is very common in new aquariums.

Is Ludwigia Palustris a beginner plant?
Ludwigia Palustris red, or Common Water-primrose, is an easy to care for aquarium plant. It can be planted in almost any kind of substrate, although it is better not to use sand as sand can suffocate the roots. The Ludwigia Palustris red plant is happy anywhere in the tank, but would make a great mid to background plant.
How big do Ludwigia Palustris red plants grow?
Ludwigia Palustris red, or Common Water-primrose, generally grows up to 12-20" inches. Its height and colour is highly dependent on your care - the stronger the light provision, the more intense its colour will be. In lower lighting the internodal distance (the gaps between the leaves) is increased, and the leaves remain a duller green/red colour. The lower leaves may drop off. It does produce aerial roots, which can be left alone or trimmed if desired.

Please note: whilst every effort is made to prevent or remove snails and snail eggs, we do not use copper treatments in our systems (because copper is also harmful to shrimp) so cannot absolutely guarantee snail-free. If you are concerned about snails, we recommended that you dip your plants in a snail preventative solution, such as Esha Gastropex, prior to adding to your aquarium. We do not recommend buying treated plants, or administering copper or anti-snail treatments if you have shrimp in your aquarium. Snails are perfectly safe in an aquarium and will not harm your fish.
