Overview:
The Giant Green Mantis Shrimp is a striking and highly active predatory crustacean, known for its vibrant green and turquoise coloration. Famous for its powerful smashing claws, it is both fascinating and challenging to keep, making it a standout addition to mature marine aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, commonly found in coral reefs, sandy substrates, and rocky crevices.
Feeding:
Carnivorous. Feeds on live or frozen meaty foods such as small fish, shrimp, crabs, and mollusks. Requires a varied diet to maintain health and coloration.
Tank Mates:
Best housed alone or with very robust, large tank mates. Can be highly aggressive and will attack other invertebrates and fish that enter its territory. Avoid small or slow-moving species.
Aggression:
Highly aggressive and territorial; capable of breaking glass and attacking other tank inhabitants.
Experience Level:
Advanced. Requires a large, secure tank with plenty of hiding spots, stable water parameters, and strong aquarium walls to prevent escapes.
