Helostoma temminckii
Description
A marbled colour form of the kissing gourami, patterned in mottled dark grey over pink. The same large, surface-grazing fish as the standard form.
Feeding
Omnivorous with a strong vegetable requirement. Spirulina flake and pellets, algae wafers and blanched vegetables.
Compatibility
Peaceful when small, boisterous when grown. Will rasp at the flanks of slow flat-bodied fish. Best with robust medium-sized tankmates.
Behaviour and personality
Grazes surfaces continuously and breathes atmospheric air at the surface. The kissing is a contest of strength between rivals.
Before you buy
Reaches 20-25 cm despite being sold small. Needs a large tank, and will eat soft plants.
