Ecsenius midas
Description
A golden-yellow blenny with bright blue-rimmed eyes, unusual among blennies for swimming freely in open water rather than perching constantly.
Feeding
Omnivorous with a strong algae component. Dried algae sheets, spirulina foods, frozen mysis and marine pellets.
Compatibility
Reef safe and generally peaceful, though territorial with other blennies. Keep one per tank unless it is large.
Behaviour and personality
Alternates between perching on rock and swimming in open water with a distinctive eel-like motion, often shoaling loosely with anthias.
Before you buy
Needs plenty of rock crevices and some algae in the diet. Occasionally nips at other fish, but far less problematic than most territorial blennies.
