Acanthurus pyroferus
Description
A tang whose juveniles mimic dwarf angelfish almost exactly, before maturing into a grey-brown adult with an orange cheek patch. Peaceful for an Acanthurus.
Feeding
Primarily herbivorous. Dried marine algae daily, spirulina foods and some frozen meaty food.
Compatibility
Reef safe but territorial toward other tangs. Generally one per tank unless it is very large.
Behaviour and personality
Grazes constantly and swims steadily throughout the day.
Before you buy
Quarantine before introduction, as tangs are prone to marine ich. Daily access to algae is essential for colour and long-term health.
