Pethia padamya
Description
A silver barb whose males carry a broad, brilliant red stripe along the flank, intensifying to near-scarlet in display. One of the more spectacular small barbs and completely peaceful.
Feeding
Flake, pellets and frozen foods, ideally with some vegetable content.
Compatibility
Peaceful, unlike the tiger barb. Keep in groups of eight or more with a mix of sexes. Good in most community tanks.
Behaviour and personality
Active mid-water shoaler. Males display to one another constantly, and the red intensifies dramatically when they do.
Before you buy
Males only reach full colour with females present and with enough other males to compete against. Prefers slightly cooler water than most tropicals.
