Overview
The Orange Line Rabbitfish, also known as the Scribbled or Barred Spinefoot, is a stunning and peaceful herbivore featuring a silver-blue body decorated with vivid orange stripes and intricate blue markings. Hardy, active, and excellent at controlling algae, it’s both a functional and visually striking addition to larger reef or community aquariums.
OriginNative to the Indo-Pacific region, including the Great Barrier Reef and surrounding islands, this species inhabits shallow reefs and lagoons, typically seen in pairs or small groups grazing among coral and rock formations.
FeedingPrimarily herbivorous, the Orange Line Rabbitfish feeds on marine algae and plant matter. Offer a varied diet of nori, spirulina, algae-based pellets, and vegetable matter, along with occasional meaty foods. Feed 2–3 times daily for best health and coloration.
Tank MatesGenerally peaceful and reef-safe with caution. It coexists well with tangs, wrasses, angelfish, and clownfish but should not be kept with other rabbitfish unless in a large tank. May occasionally nip at soft corals if underfed.
AggressionCalm and non-aggressive, though territorial behavior can occur if housed with similar-shaped fish in tight quarters. Provide ample swimming space and hiding spots.
Experience LevelRecommended for intermediate aquarists. Hardy and adaptable but requires a spacious, mature tank with plenty of algae and rockwork for grazing.
