Description

Phyllanthus Fluitans | Red Root Floater

Originally from the Amazon river basin, Phyllanthus fluitans leaves vary in colour depending on conditions, from bright green to dark. The Red Root Floater has small white flowers in good lighting and low nitrogen levels. In warm conditions Phyllanthus Fluitans can spread significantly more than 30cm in a season, but it is not very hardy.

The Red Root Floater floating pond plant is not native and thus not hardy, so remove decaying plants after the first frost. To overwinter Phyllanthus fluitans, place in shallow water with a little soil for the roots to grow into. Store Red root floaters in good lighting and at a temperature above 10 °c. Return Phyllanthus Fluitans to the pond in late spring (April/May) when there is no further risk of frost.

Are floating plants good for my garden pond?
Yes, floating plants like Phyllanthus Fluitans - Red Root Floaters, are great for keeping pond water healthy for fish and aquatic life. The floating roots are long and will trap and help break down waste and plant debris, as well as trapping small insects and creatures for fish to feed on. Floating plants also provide shade for the pond inhabitants, blocking sunlight to reduce algae growth. For a helpful guide on how to keep and maintain floating plants please click here.
