Pomacanthus maculosus
Description
A large Arabian angelfish, deep blue with a broad yellow crescent across the flank. Magnificent, and a very substantial fish at maturity.
Feeding
Omnivorous with a sponge component. Angelfish preparations containing sponge, plus mysis, clam, dried algae and marine pellets.
Compatibility
Not reef safe - will eat soft corals, clams and zoanthids. Territorial with other large angels. Suits a large fish-only system.
Behaviour and personality
Juveniles are dark blue with white bars and look entirely unlike the adults, which are blue-yellow with a bright yellow flank blotch.
Before you buy
Reaches around 45 cm and needs an extremely large system. The juvenile and adult colour forms are so different that people frequently do not realise what they are buying. Not suitable for a reef tank.
