Description
Queen Angelfish Holacanthus Ciliaris
Overview: The Queen Angelfish is a majestic marine species known for its vibrant colors and elegant swimming style. With a primarily blue and yellow body, accented by a distinctive "crown" of blue spots on its head, this angelfish is a breathtaking addition to any saltwater aquarium. Adults can grow up to 18 inches in length, making them a sizable centerpiece for larger tanks.
Origin: Native to the tropical waters of the western Atlantic Ocean, the Queen Angelfish thrives in coral reefs from Florida to Brazil, including the Caribbean Sea and Gulf of Mexico. It prefers environments with plenty of hiding spots and vertical spaces to explore.
Feeding: Omnivorous by nature, the Queen Angelfish requires a varied diet to stay healthy. This includes spirulina, marine algae, high-quality angelfish preparations, mysis shrimp, and other meaty items. Feeding should occur at least twice a day.
Tank Mates: Suitable for a community tank with careful selection. Avoid housing with overly aggressive species or other large angelfish to prevent territorial disputes. Ideal tank mates include larger species of fish that are peaceful or semi-aggressive, such as tangs, clownfish, and certain types of wrasses.
Aggression: While generally peaceful towards other species, the Queen Angelfish can exhibit territorial behavior, especially towards its own kind or similar looking species. A larger tank with plenty of hiding places can help mitigate aggression.
Experience Level: Intermediate to Advanced. Due to its size, dietary needs, and sensitivity to water quality, the Queen Angelfish is best suited for hobbyists with some experience in maintaining larger marine aquariums.
