Hydrophlox chrosomus
Description
A North American native that colours up extraordinarily in breeding condition, the head and fins turning pink, gold and violet over a silver body. Coldwater, and largely unknown in the general trade.
Feeding
Flake, micro-pellets and frozen daphnia and bloodworm.
Compatibility
Peaceful and highly social. Keep in groups of eight or more. Best in a coldwater native setup with good flow, not a tropical community.
Behaviour and personality
Active shoaler that uses the full tank. Colour peaks in spring and is spectacular when it does.
Before you buy
A coldwater fish that needs cool, well-oxygenated water with flow. Kept at tropical temperatures it will not colour up properly and will be short-lived.
