Suttonia suttoni
Description
A small, secretive red soapfish that spends most of its time wedged in rockwork. Rarely offered and little known in the hobby.
Feeding
Carnivorous. Frozen prawn, mysis and chunks of marine fish, two or three times a week.
Compatibility
Will eat small fish and shrimp. Reef safe with corals. Best with tankmates too large to be swallowed.
Behaviour and personality
Cryptic and largely nocturnal, wedging into caves and crevices during the day.
Before you buy
Soapfish secrete a bitter toxic mucus called grammistin when stressed, which in a small closed system can affect other fish. Handle carefully and avoid stressing it during transport. Very little aquarium literature exists for this species.
