Rock Mover Dragon Wrasse Novaculichthys Taeniourus
Overview: The Rock Mover Dragon Wrasse, also known as the Carpet Wrasse, Bar-Cheeked Wrasse, Reindeer Wrasse, or Olive-Scribbled Wrasse, is a saltwater fish from the Indo-Pacific, found in shallow coral reefs and lagoons around regions such as Australia, The Philippines, Hawaii, and California. It exhibits a maroon to green body coloration with white markings as a juvenile, while the adult has a light-blue to green body with darker markings. This fish requires a 180-gallon or larger aquarium with a 2-4 inch sandy bottom for burrowing.
Feeding Habits: The Dragon Wrasse is a carnivorous fish that feeds on crustaceans, snails, shrimp, starfish, smaller fish, worms, and other invertebrates. Its diet should include vitamin enriched frozen mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, and other meaty foods, supplemented with high-quality marine flake and pellet food.
Suitable Tank Mates: The Rock Mover Dragon Wrasse may be housed with aggressive or larger fish, but as a juvenile, it should be kept with more passive tank mates. It is best to house only one Dragon Wrasse per tank. It should not be placed in a reef aquarium due to its habit of moving corals and rearranging rocks in search of food.
Aggression Level: This fish is known for its aggressive and territorial behavior, as it will attack any fish that encroaches on its territory.
Experience Level: Due to its aggressive nature and specific care requirements, having previous fishkeeping experience is recommended for keeping the Rock Mover Dragon Wrasse. Beginners may want to start with fish that are easier to care for.
