Overview:
The Scarlet Serpent Starfish is a striking and active brittle star with long, slender, bright red arms. Known for its nocturnal scavenging behavior, it is a fascinating addition to large marine aquariums, often seen stretching its arms from rock crevices.
Origin:
Native to the Caribbean and Western Atlantic, commonly found in reef rubble and rocky environments.
Feeding:
Omnivorous scavenger. Feeds on detritus, leftover food, and small invertebrates. Can be target-fed with meaty foods such as mysis shrimp, chopped seafood, or sinking pellets.
Tank Mates:
Generally safe with fish and corals. May prey on very small fish or shrimp if underfed. Avoid housing with aggressive predators.
Aggression:
Peaceful when well-fed, but opportunistic if hungry.
Experience Level:
Intermediate to advanced. Best kept in mature systems with plenty of live rock, hiding places, and consistent feeding.
