Description
Overview:
The Snowflake Grouper is a beautiful and powerful predatory fish, named for its unique pattern of pale white and blue speckles across a darker body. Its striking appearance and robust size make it a standout addition to large predator marine aquariums.
Origin:
Native to the Indo-Pacific, ranging from the Red Sea and East Africa across to the central Pacific.
Feeding:
Carnivorous – thrives on a diet of meaty foods such as shrimp, squid, fish, and other protein-rich offerings. Should be fed a varied mix of fresh or frozen seafood.
Tank Mates:
Best kept with large, aggressive fish such as triggers, big wrasses, and other groupers. Not suitable with small fish or ornamental invertebrates, as they will be eaten.
Aggression:
Highly territorial and predatory – requires plenty of space and should not be housed with small or timid tank mates.
Experience Level:
Advanced aquarists – demands a large, well-filtered aquarium, careful feeding, and thoughtful tank mate selection.
Water Parameters:
- Temperature: 74–80°F (23–27°C)
- pH: 8.1–8.4
- Salinity: 1.020–1.025
- Minimum Tank Size: 180+ gallons
The Snowflake Grouper is a striking, predatory species perfect for advanced aquarists seeking a large, aggressive show fish for a dedicated predator marine setup.
