Care guide at a glance
Amphiprion percula
Description
A percula clownfish from the Solomon Islands, where the population develops extensive true black across the body between the white bars. Among the most desirable wild clownfish forms.
Feeding
Marine pellets, flake and frozen mysis and brine shrimp. Wild specimens settle a little more slowly than captive-bred stock.
Compatibility
Reef safe and peaceful. Keep singly or as a bonded pair. Territorial around a host.
Behaviour and personality
The black spreads progressively with age, so a juvenile arrives largely orange and darkens over the first year or two.
Before you buy
The black is age-dependent and develops over the first couple of years, so juveniles look far more orange than the adult they become. Wild-caught, so quarantine before introduction.
