Pseudomugil gertrudae
Description
A tiny blue-eyed rainbowfish with spotted fins and a translucent body, the males flaring bright yellow-edged fins in display. Excellent in a small planted tank.
Feeding
Small foods: powdered flake, crushed micro-pellets, frozen cyclops and baby brine shrimp. Live foods bring out the best colour.
Compatibility
Peaceful and best in a species tank or with other nano fish. Keep in groups of eight or more with several males.
Behaviour and personality
Males spend much of the day displaying at one another with fins fully spread. Short-lived compared with most aquarium fish, typically living one to two years.
Before you buy
Prefers warm, soft, slightly acidic water. The natural lifespan is genuinely short, which surprises people who assume something has gone wrong.
