Heteroconger hassi
Description
A slender spotted eel that lives permanently in a vertical sand burrow, swaying in the current to pick plankton. Fascinating, and a genuine specialist.
Feeding
Planktivore. Requires small foods delivered into the water column in gentle flow - frozen mysis, enriched brine shrimp and cyclops, several times daily.
Compatibility
Peaceful and reef safe. Must be kept in a group of five or more, as isolated individuals rarely emerge or feed. Cannot be housed with boisterous tankmates.
Behaviour and personality
Extends from a sand burrow to feed and withdraws completely when startled. A colony swaying together is one of the best sights in a marine aquarium.
Before you buy
Three requirements, all essential: a very deep fine sand bed, a group of at least five, and a completely sealed tank. Isolated or startled individuals often refuse to emerge and starve. Not a fish for a mixed community.

DX courier delivery is £29.95 per livestock order.
Free delivery when your livestock subtotal is over £350.
Delivery is scheduled for your selected delivery date and typically arrives before 1pm.
There is no minimum order value.
Additional information:
- In-stock livestock orders will be processed and dispatched for delivery on the date selected on the cart/basket page.
- Available delivery days are Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday.
- If any stock issues affect your chosen delivery date, we will contact you as soon as possible by email or telephone.
- Shipping for dry goods is charged separately from livestock delivery and does not count towards the £350 free delivery threshold. Dry goods are dispatched according to our standard delivery policy.
