Overview
The Strawberry Pygmy Basslet is a vibrant and hardy reef fish displaying a brilliant pink to magenta body with subtle violet highlights. Compact, colorful, and full of personality, it’s an excellent choice for aquarists looking to add a splash of color to reef or community aquariums.
OriginNative to the Indo-Pacific region, including Indonesia, the Philippines, and the Solomon Islands, the Strawberry Pygmy Basslet inhabits coral reefs and rocky areas where it shelters among crevices and overhangs.
FeedingA carnivorous species that thrives on meaty marine foods such as mysis shrimp, brine shrimp, finely chopped seafood, and high-quality frozen or pellet diets. Feed once or twice daily to maintain color and vitality.
Tank MatesGenerally peaceful with other community fish when housed in a sufficiently spacious aquarium with plenty of hiding places. Avoid mixing with other dottybacks or similar-shaped species in small tanks, as territorial disputes may occur.
AggressionMildly territorial, particularly in confined spaces. Rockwork and caves help establish boundaries and minimize aggression. Once settled, this species is active and confident without being overly aggressive.
Experience LevelIdeal for beginner to intermediate aquarists. Hardy, easy to feed, and completely reef-safe, the Strawberry Pygmy Basslet adapts readily to a wide range of aquarium conditions.
